Picking the Perfect Book Sleeve

If you are a reader, then you know that picking the perfect bookish accessories is quite important. How you store, display, and take care of your books can determine how much you enjoy your books.

I started making book sleeves for my shop purely because I wanted a way to protect my own books, and thought maybe others would feel the same way. They very quickly became my best-selling product, and I had to think more about how my customers might shop for a book sleeve.

The first thing to think about is what medium you prefer to read in. Do you prefer the traditional book format of a paperback or hardcover book? Have you decided that reading on an e-reader is a better fit for your lifestyle? Maybe you are like me and enjoy both of these mediums and might need both a book and an e-reader sleeve! (I do not mean to exclude those who listen to audiobooks; listening is reading too!) The medium you prefer will determine what kind of sleeve makes the most sense for your needs, or for the person you are buying for.

The second thing that I started doing was categorizing the book sleeves based on what genre I thought they fit. (This is an extremely objective science, so you might not agree with all my choices, but I promise I do my best!) I tried to have pretty generic genre categories to make it broad so that there aren't too many choices to pick through, but enough to make sense. Putting each book sleeve into a genre helps my customers think of what kinds of books they enjoy most in order to pick a sleeve that best fits their interests. There are so many patterns in the shop, so there is sure to be something for everyone!

The last piece is if you would like a sleeve that is made with vintage fabric or modern fabric. Sustainability has always been an important part of my business, and using vintage fabric has been an exciting way to use fabric that would otherwise go into a landfill. The vintage fabric I get is checked over to make sure that it is in good condition and does not have any staining or odors. I love sewing with vintage fabric as well, because the patterns truly are stunning and have great quality.
